Marisol: A Retrospective (February 23–July 6, 2025)
The season’s headline exhibition is the critically acclaimed Marisol: A Retrospective. Making its final North American tour stop in Dallas, this comprehensive survey showcases over 250 works by Pop art pioneer Marisol. The New York Times and Washington Post both deemed it a “must-see exhibition,” and we couldn’t agree more. This remarkable collection spans nearly 60 years of the artist’s career, featuring her signature life-size sculptures and thought-provoking installations.
This landmark exhibition features over 250 artworks and documents, including 39 pieces making their public debut. You can experience Marisol’s signature life-size totemic figures, including her masterpiece “The Party” (1965-1966), an assemblage of 15 life-size figures bearing the artist’s own facial features. The exhibition also showcases thought-provoking works like “Baby Girl” (1963) and “Baby Boy” (1962-1963), which address Cold War concerns and explore themes of femininity and motherhood.
Born in Paris to a Venezuelan family, Marisol emerged as one of the most influential artists of the mid-1960s, known for both her artistic innovation and her presence in New York’s avant-garde circles, including Andy Warhol’s social sphere. Her work tackles themes that remain strikingly relevant today: women’s experiences, environmental concerns, social justice, and geopolitical conflict.
Plan Your Visit: The Marisol: A Retrospective. exhibit runs through July 6, 2025, at the Dallas Museum of Art. While general admission to the museum is free, special exhibitions may require separate tickets.
Return to Infinity: Yayoi Kusama (May 7, 2025–January 18, 2026)
Art enthusiasts will be delighted by the return of Yayoi Kusama’s immersive masterpiece, “All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins.” This captivating Infinity Mirrored Room, the only one of its kind in North America, returns to public view for the first time since 2018. It’s an Instagram-worthy experience you won’t want to miss.
Historical Treasures and Contemporary Perspectives
The DMA is also presenting several fascinating exhibitions that showcase the breadth of their collection:
Nature & Artifice: Works on Paper from Dürer to Rembrandt (January 19–July 28, 2025) offers a rare glimpse into the museum’s collection of Northern European masterworks, exploring humanity’s relationship with nature through intricate compositions.
Creatures and Captives: Painted Textiles of the Ancient Andes (September 21, 2025–February 22, 2026) highlights a lesser-known textile tradition, featuring subtle yet stunning painted works from ancient Andean artists.
